Saving Law Firms Thousands of Pounds...

Why Law firms are recruiting at a rapid pace via Recruitpedia

There has been a massive growth in the legal sector in 2022. 85% of legal firms [1] have planned to increase their hiring needs throughout the year, with no signs of stopping. This has happened even with hiring difficulties posed by the pandemic that has pushed more job opportunities away from the big cities and more into remote work. Yet how law firms are hiring is also changing due to smarter ways in recrutiing and moving away from traditional old school agency style recruitment.  Gone may be the days when law firms need to work with headhunters to procure their next patch of junior lawyers or the myriad of other roles available for UK Law firms.

An industry on the rise.....

Traditionally, the legal sector has been one that has had steady growth over the years. Yet, in recent years, especially with a major disruption when it comes to how we work, as well as record-breaking economies, there has been a huge lack of lawyers and their support staff to handle the overwhelming demand.

Growth has occurred in all sectors, with business and commercial matters achieving 47% of the business overall in 2021 [2]. This is in part due to the huge increase in conveyancing (i.e. residential property). Family Law has also grown, especially since it seems that divorce rates have been on the rise in 2022. This may have been due to a law that passed in 2020 that allowed for no-fault divorces, enabling a smoother and simpler process. However, at the same time, looking year over year between April 2021 and April 2022 [3], the number of divorces doubled. This, of course, is leading to a higher demand for legal advice and support to ensure a proper dissolution of marriage.

Yet the courts themselves, across all types of law, are finding themselves overwhelmed, meaning there needs to be more recruitment to occur not just on the law firm side but on the legal civil service side to help process these quicker.

One thing many people may know is just how high the initial pay can be, even for junior lawyers just starting their careers. Many will begin over six figures, and even more will see a 10-15% increase [4] in their salaries across the board. But, even with that, there's still a huge demand in how many positions are currently vacant. High salaries don't seem to coincide well with those looking for work on better working terms, or the employers who don't seem that pleased to have to pay a commission on the recruitment between 15%-25% of the candidate's salary.
